The Highway 407 overpasses that are being built in Oshawa and will have specific designed themes.
The two themes that Oshawa will have are equestrian and Aboriginal.
The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) has confirmed where they’ll be placed. The equestrian theme is going to be placed on the Harmony Road overpass. However, the Harmony overpass is right by a First Nations archeological discovery.
The Aboriginal theme is going to be placed on the Simcoe Street overpass. However, this overpass is in the proximity of the former Windfields Farms, known for its famous thoroughbred racing horses.
Oshawa City Councillor Nancy Diamond is fighting for the artwork on these two overpasses to be switched.
City Council supports Diamond’s view and has placed a request into the MTO to have the Aboriginal design be placed on Harmony Road and the equestrian design on Simcoe Street.
Chronicle reporter Amy Bridges spoke with Nancy Diamond about the issue.
